Come experience the work of 19 trailblazing experience designers from around the world. The third cohort of the Experience Design Certificate Program has spent the past year reimagining death rituals, community action, creative processes, reproductive justice, and responses to climate catastrophe. These unique interactive projects span 1-on-1 performance, collaborative cooking games, portraiture experiences, and interactive installation. Each piece is an invitation to cross the threshold into a new way of experiencing the world.
Led by Odyssey Works, the internationally-acclaimed group which has expanded the notion of experience design and famously made performances for an audience of one for more than two decades, the artists and designers of The New Frame will invite you to rethink the possibilities of design.

All guests are welcome to attend a talk on retreat design from 2:00 - 2:30pm and a cocktail reception from 5-6 pm. Sessions will take place in both 301 and 305 Ten Eyck Street. Please check your schedule to find the location of each session.
You’re invited to step inside a moment of wonder, to linger in uncertainty and dance with possibility. In this assembly, nothing is what you expect. This experience will ask you to be vulnerable with strangers, bold with your imagining and playful in your pursuit. But if you can accept these risks and wander curiously into the unknown together, change is possible.
Each assembly has space for 5 participants and will last approximately 40 minutes. To claim your spot in one of the six assemblies, you must forage your hidden mushroom invitation at The New Frame on the day of the event.
Every choice we make pushes a narrative forward. Every time we choose what’s expected of us, we push forward the narrative of our default world. We agree to continue playing the game. Today, I’m choosing to push forward another narrative. One that takes this 75-word allotment... Read More →

The talk Togetherness through Design will cover Travessia (Threshold)—not a retreat, not a program, but an immersion built on 16 principles of deep collaborative engagement across four pillars—relation, transcendence, sense and meaning, and self-actualization—this methodology is the result of a decade-long collaborative labor of love. Travessia confronts the isolation bred by individualism, passivity, and consumerism, reawakening us to what truly matters. Set on a bucolic island in southern Brazil, this 60-hour immersive experience invited participants to reconnect with themselves and others in a space that evokes a sense of home, fostering playful exploration and intimacy-building. In a society that has lost its rituals, Travessia creates a collective space to honor life’s transformations and invites participants to pause, reflect, and establish essential rites of passage for their journey ahead.

The Unfolding transforms how we see ourselves—both literally and metaphorically. In this collaborative, one-on-one portrait session, the image becomes the starting point for a deeper exploration of identity. Through meaningful conversation and photography, the portrait is physically manipulated—folded, warped, and reshaped by hand. Inspired by wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection, the process creates something unexpected from the familiar. Each session culminates in a museum-quality fine art print, co-signed by both the participant and the artist—a lasting record of this shared journey into the otherwise invisible.
Chris Sallquist warps, distorts, and disrupts the familiar. Based in Seattle, he blends digital and physical manipulation using an iPhone and his hands to peel back the layers of everyday images, revealing the strange within the ordinary. His art isn’t for passive viewers—it’s... Read More →
